Client: A computer connected to a server over a network.
Access: An operation that allows authorized individuals to view and obtain copies of stored electronic documents.
POP and IMAP are the two methods available to configure access to your inbox within your email client.
If you choose POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3)—currently the most widely used—messages are retrieved from the Inbox folder on the mail server and downloaded locally to your computer. They will no longer be visible via webmail unless you enable the option to keep a copy on the server.
With IMAP4 (Internet Mail Access Protocol 4), your messages—whether they are in the Inbox or in any other folder—remain stored on the server, while only a copy is downloaded to your computer. This allows you to access your mailbox from multiple computers and view the same content, provided that all access is via IMAP4 or webmail.
It is important to note that if you delete a message from your email client, it will also be deleted from the webmail.
Server: A computer connected to a network with other computers, where the information they use is stored.

Certified Email (PEC): Any email system that provides the sender with electronic documentation certifying the sending and delivery of electronic documents.
After performing a check on my account, the system indicates that I will need to proceed with a manual configuration.

Click the Sign In button to complete the setup. Your PEC mailbox will be configured in the Apple Mail client, allowing you to send and receive certified emails. Finally, the program will prompt you to select the apps with which you want to use the newly created account.

You can also verify the outgoing mail server configuration. The Legalmail mailbox requires the use of the server sendm.cert.legalmail.it, and another option available from the menu is Edit SMTP Server List.
Authentication: A process through which a computer, software, or recipient user verifies that the computer, software, or user from which they received a communication is indeed the claimed sender. One of the most commonly used authentication methods requires the user to enter a username and password. More advanced methods rely on various encryption systems.
Similarly, the connection to the outgoing mail server uses SSL with Password authentication.
